"Bus hits bridge in Tottenham, injuring 26 people"

From the BBC:

Five people have been taken to hospital and a further 21 injured after the roof of a bus was ripped off when it hit a railway bridge in north London.

Bus hits bridge stories are a lot less common than car hits house stories, but are more spectacular so get a lot more coverage. I'll have to start keeping a tally.

This sort of thing always puzzles me. Buses run along fixed routes and railway bridges are of a fixed height, so unless this was an entirely new route or the first time a double-decker had been used on an old route, how come the collision? If it was a new route, etc. how come nobody checked it first?
