Islamist terrorism in the 21st century

I did this before going to work so clearly it's nowhere near complete. Give me a nudge in the comments and I will update the chart this evening.

Indeed. But that is how 'terrorism' works.
Mind you, once they get hold of a nuke...

Fine as far as it goes but why stop at Islamic terrorism, apart from the fact that it's easier to count? State terrorism is arguably bigger by several orders of magnitude.

Thank goodness the price of oil is going down. Petro-dictatorships tend to introduce reforms when their oil revenue is squeezed and they can no longer hand out as much 'shut up' money...

No we are not paying a stiff price for historic events, we're just paying. Charlie Hebdo certainly didn't send Stinger missiles to Afghanistan, the victims of the London bombings didn't, and most likely none or very few of the couple of thousand at WTC. Secular, not-entirely-corrupt countries, specifically civilians, is being attacked by idiots that subscribe to a tribalist, anti-human "philosophy".

mombers,

Because of the balance of power between state and individuals. Oil is "state" (much like land). Productive work is individual.

Our system of government changed with the industrial revolution, with the reform acts giving more votes to more people as they gained more individual power.

It's why regime change in the Middle East probably won't work. Egypt has promise, because Egypt is becoming more industrial.

Kj,

Indeed. The activities of Black September and the PLO happened before we started sending Stinger missiles to Afghanistan.

The more successful terrorism becomes, the less the terrorists need to actually kill. Would you now dare post the cartoon of Mohammed's bare buttocks on your site, given what has happened?

For your convenience, they can be found here:-

How does it compare to western democratic terrorism?

France 100,000,000 Islam 12

http://www.meltfund.com/2015/01/france-100000000-islam-12.html

If you object to the idea that the West's slaughter of 10's of millions of innocent people is not terror, go ask the mothers of all of them and see what they say.

Time to wake up to reality, and forget your religion.

Lola: its far easier, more terrorising and more deadly to get a few grams of bio weapon and tip it into the water supply of a city.

Its exceptionally difficult to build an atomic bomb by orders of magnitude. I mean even machining plutonium into the ideal shape for optimal neutron capture cross section is extraordinarily difficult even for the most advanced science.

The best thing to do to address nuclear weapons is to give at least one to all nations. Then just maybe the religion of democracy would be humbled finally.

I fear you still are victim to the hysteria that all radiation is dangerous or that plutonium is the most dangerous material. The ignorance around nuclear topics makes a mere minnow of things like LVT.

@Kj
You cannot say that sponsoring mujahidin and possibly Bin Laden to attack Russians was of no consequence or tangential.Bin Laden was in Khartoum previous to Afghanistan and going nowhere politically.Whether he was supported by CIA is an open and intriguing question and not irrelevant. Robin Cook, former UK Home Secretary, stated univocally in The Guardian that he was .He was dead within a month.American ,British et al involvement was at least a catalyst ,so necessary as to be causative, of the onset of worldwide jihad. It was not drummed up by jihadis working on their own.

I agree with DBCR. If you kick over an anthill, it's no good complaining that bystanders who had nothing to do with the kicking over are also getting bitten.

Mark, you should really put Syria in there, unless you mean "Islamist terrorism against non-Muslims in the 21st century"

DBCR, you can also take the view that on-going, low level terrorism is very useful for a western "democracy" that wishes to keep in place "emergency" curtailments of its citizens' liberties and to put more in place. "We have always been at war with Oceania"
