Health Scare Story Du Jour

Eating bacon every day will make you feel really, really old:

In March this year, a Europe-wide study of almost half a million men and women linked processed meat to deaths from cancer and heart disease. The research found that eating more than 20g a day of processed meat - equal to one rasher of cheap bacon - could be to blame for about one in 30 deaths.

You read lots of these stories about really old people, and they all have a different "secret" to living so long*. For some it's eating bacon every day, for some it's going to church every day, for some it's having a glass of brandy every evening. It doesn't seem to matter much what it is, but what they all have in common is that they do the same thing every day.

* Actually it's largely down to pure chance, they are just at the far end of the bell curve, but having a nice routine does seem to help.

Proof! TW
"Doctors may warn that processed meat is bad for your health, but one grandmother said it is the reason she has lived to be 105."

It would seem the key message is to do something, every day, that you enjoy or get comfort from.

Exactly, otherwise there is no point being alive anyway. Or to rephrase that: people who are happy and content with simple pleasures live longer. Hardly surprising.

I like eating bacon, and having seen the state my nan ended up in, I'd like my body to give out before my brain, thank you very much.

My grandfather got his 4 score, and died peacefully in his sleep. He was a bit forgetful and losing his hearing, but basically that's the way to go.
