It's a lot like "pulling up the ladder". I'm certain that Selina Scott got that Clothes Show job for a lot of other reasons than because of her broadcasting skills and fashion knowledge. Being pretty and young helped a lot. But now it's happening to her, she's using the law.

That's what's dumb about age discrimination legislation. Unlike race or sex, we are all affected by it. We're all 20,30,40 and 50 at some point in our life, and if there's discrimination against the old, we gain when we're young.

So, in terms of producers, it's a zero sum gain. But with discrimination, consumers get an advantage.

"We need to do something about that because television represents such a picture of who we are as a community."

Oh, hahah. Yes, the BBC is so representative of the "community". A huge percentage of the community has been to Oxford and Cambridge.
