There was a mildly informative article in yesterday's Sun about the Royal Family's expenditure that I have only just got round to reading in full.
It ends with this:
More than £22,000 was spent on chartering a helicopter to take the Queen, Prince Philip and two pals to the Kentucky Derby in Louisville during a state visit to the US in May last year. The official five-day visit to the US cost almost £412,000 in total... Graham Smith, of campaign group Republic, branded the travel costs “a disgrace” and said: “Elected politicians would never get away with this kind of extravagance.”
What f***ing planet does he live on?

What are you talking about??
Even that article you link to suggests a spending of £200,000 as opposed to the £415,000 spent by the royals… and nobody is screaming very loudly about the royals ripping off the taxpayers.
I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that if Gordon Brown spent £22,000 on a day at the races it would finish him off.
Royal finances are a scandal.

That £415,000 was a one-off, plus the whole point is that while they are there, there are lots of industry rep's who tag along and sign some export deals.
That £200,000 is just a regular day out for the MEPs, they do it week-in, week-out.
The bill isn't for industry reps, it is for royals.
...and don't tell me the exports of republics such as Germany suffer because of a lack of royal family.
